E-series higher capacity gas tank / dual tank options?
I was wondering what options exist for improving fuel capacity in my 93 clubwagon E350. The factory tank is only ~30 gal? Making my own B100 I'd really like more capacity, at least 40 gallons.
Edit: I should note I'd prefer to avoid having a permanent tank inside the vehicle. I'm ok w/ having a transfer tank for long trips, but for weekend trips a higher cap on-board tank would be nice.

Re: E-series higher capacity gas tank / dual tank options?
Transfer Flow may not have a solution anymore. They no longer sell their aft-axle tank (which I have) except for disabled-van installs where it replaces your stock tank. Otherwise, they have the 46 gal replacement tank, but that's only for 4x4 vans....

The T-F 46 gallon tank can be used on a 2wd van, you just have to fabricate a crossmember/tank mount for the front. The tank was designed to use the Quigley transfer case crossmember as a mount.

maybe its the empty space behind axle? On my extended there is a large area,in between spare tire & differential. I was thinking about making a box for tools & spare parts. I guess I start looking under diesel box vans in parking lots. I hope they are made out of aluminum.
BTW; I pm'd blageurt, with the question, just in case he does not revisit this thread again. He's not a real frequent poster.
Re: E-series higher capacity gas tank / dual tank options?
Here's Blageurt's PM reply;
"I'm not sure if they are aluminium or not but yes they are bolted behind the axle. If you have the service manual they are an OEM tank that comes with the Cubes. As soon as it stops snowing here I'll crawl underneath my nieghbours truck and take a picture and take some measurements. If you give me your email I could scan the manual picture and send it to you as well. I would look in scap yards or get one made. There are lots of them here in Toronto ( cube vans I mean ).They should be easy to find."

I suppose it would fit, then... But due to ground clearance it doesn't sound like something TF would support. But, then, that kind of thing has never stopped most of us before. The aft-axle tank, on the other hand, was marketed to the 2wds as well.

So you guys should know, I just talked to John at Quadvan, they buy and install the Transfer-Flow 46 gal tanks. They designed a crossmember to bolt into the top of the stock frame, to hang the tank in position. This is designed for the 4x4 system, but would also fit the 2WD as well. The fill neck and hoses are different between gas & DSL. They stock these tanks there, and can supply the tank, with the crossmember and the correct installation kit for your van. Contact them at Quadvan.com or call for more information. 503-224-3629
