E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
I took the dog house off today and discovered a major exhaust leak on the drivers side. The entire back of the engine and top of the transmission was covered with black soot. The pipe from the manifold to the 'Y' connector for the turbo was about 1/4th inch too short and was barely inside the flange of the 'Y'. I sprayed the bolts with penetrating oil and attempted to remove the flange bolts and both broke off. Knowing they had to be drilled out, I was going to remove the 'Y' and started taking the bolts off the flange on the other side. The outer part of the thread hole on one broke off of the 'Y', so that the threads are exposed. So now, I have two broken bolts in one flange, and broken threads on the other. The stealership wants $110 for this simple 'Y' connector. Can the broken threaded hole be welded and retapped? Anyone know a good discount house for ford parts?
I would try International. That being said you should be able to drill /tap the remaining bolts out. While you are there I would replace the donuts on the up-pipes and all bolts pertaining to the Pre Turbo exhaust. On the Downloads section of the Forum there is a Ford /International parts cross reference list .

I'm also having problems finding this part; none of the on line drill downs list it. The number stamped on the part is 1824272C1, but I can't find that part number either. Anyone know how to cross reference that number to one that's useable?
I installed a 4" Magnaflow exhaust on my van with the straight through muffler and it made some serious drone/sound/noise that gave us all a headache on a short ride. A long ride forget it, you had a serious headache problem.
So I bought the 2" Thermo-Tec Header Tape Wrap and had my exhaust shop wrap the entire exhaust system with the Thermo-Tec Wrap and the Drone went away, no more interior noise. It's very quiet inside now. One of the best mods I did to the van. It did not change my EGT's or anything. We even wrapped the muffler as it is round.
Thanks rpm, but it is too late; I bought it when I posted and will install it tomorrow. Again, thanks for the offer. Van, I'm sorry, but I'm clueless; I have no idea what your posting.
what Im talking about is the noise the diesel van has with the exhaust directly under it.
I use the heat tape 2" wide, that they use on the NASCAR header pipes and exhaust.
it makes the interior noise levels go down to reasonable levels.
After you repair those pipes under the doghouse you can wrap them with heat tape and it will help the van be quiet.
thats all
Must be that I was raised around the airports with all types of planes coming and going that the sound that the 4" aero turbin makes gives me no mind..I like it ,, like a twin otter on short runway take off and then the change of blades at 500'..
