Check with dennis at www.itpdiesel.com I know he has a turbo back van specific for the 99-03 powerstroke van. He might be able to tell you if it will fit a 96. The only fit issue I can think off will be the downpipe and connection to the turbo. Muffler and over the axle tailpipe should be the same.
Stock truck downpipes are flatened some.
The biggest restriction in the stock exhaust is the muffler, unless you are planning serious mods or high power chip, there is little benefit to changing the downpipe. Just replacing the stock muffler with a staight thru style like a Walker BTM will make an improvement in flow and help control EGT (Exhaust Gas Temps).
