Could some tell me if the Ford forged aluminm wheel is made by Alcoa?
If so can we by the wheel direct from them? I am looking for 16x7 8 on 6.5 .

Re: Ford Aluminum wheels

I doubt that Alcoa sells to retail customers. I believe that Alcoa "was" the maker/supplier 10+ years ago. Mine were made by Accuride. You can buy 16X7 Alcoa wheels from "southwest wheel" but it will have a larger bore hole than stock.

Re: Ford Aluminum wheels

I thought the aftermarket wheels were not rated for the Class E tire pressure "80lbs"?

Re: Ford Aluminum wheels

The Alcoa Wheels are forged, and are rated for Load Range E Loads and pressures. You are right about the cheaper cast wheels, most if not all of those aren't rated for 80 psi (although mine haven't broken yet)and are technically 3/4 ton Load Range D max rating.

In Alcoa there is Classic 8 hole (Similar to OEM Wheel) and also LTS (5 Trapezoidal holes) also similar to a more rare optional OEM wheel for the van, Both in 16"x7" 8 on 6.5. Just watched a set of the latter in OEM(the 5 hole ones) go on ebay for $430.00.

There is also a 17x8 Alcoa wheel available for the van that wasn't there last time I looked. Click link below and then click on the model numbers to see what the wheels look like. The other difference between the Alcoa Wheel and the OEM is the OEM are clear coated which eliminates polishing the aluminum.

Southwest Wheel Alcoa Ford Single Wheel Choices

I know truckandrvsupply on ebay, when they have them always advertise the OEM Van wheels as being Alcoa. I do remember a thread here a while back (OVER A YEAR) about those where someone e-mailed the guy at truckandrv to get a pic or confirmation of the manufacturer being Alcoa. I don't think he ever produced one though. The wheel should have the manufacturer stamp or logo on it somewhere.

Re: Ford Aluminum wheels

I had weld wheels on a previous truck, 3500 chevy dually. Two of the wheels separated at the welds and started leaking air.

Re: Ford Aluminum wheels

Come to think of it, the Mickey Thompsons may have been forged also. Is that the name?

Re: Ford Aluminum wheels

American racing makes a 16 8 with the right offset for Vans. I thought is was an e rated wheel when I bought it? Maybe not, I really don't know anything about wheels other that you always want the next size bigger 2 months after you get a new set mounted with fresh rubber.
