frame mounted fuel filter trouble - Diesel Forum

need some help! cant get frame rail mounted filter cap off. ironically, filter on top of motor was a breeze. what am i doing wrong? thanks for some quick help

I had a similar problem once and wound up using a strap wrench on the filter housing (placed up high near the threads) as well as a 36mm socket on the lower boss)

it was squeaky tight but it did finally come loose.

i put a small amount of grease on the threads before re installing and have not had another problem since

finally got it off after just ignoring the little voice in my head urging not to be impatient & thereby breaking it. ridiculous how hard it was to get off. also poor design as sensor connection protect. hits mounting bracket as you rotate it. oh well, an 18" set of channel locks and a $50 new cap and i'm back in biz.
thanks for the tip frank, will definetly lube the threads before reinstalling.

Anyone know if the 2000 had this other filter? I've never located one on my van and would definately need to change it if there is one.
