E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
Was cleaning up the van the other day and realized just how crappy the plastic piece below the front bumper has started to look (calling it the facia for lack of better term). This is on my 03 and originally it was an off grey/black color that matched the running boards. It now has a very unattractive mottled look with some staining on it from road goo that just won't go away.
Has anyone had success in keeping this part looking good and if so, what do you do to it? I have tried all sorts of cleaners, etc, but it just looks old already while the rest of the van still looks almost new.
do it and your running boards up in bed liner material itll look like youre a high class redneck (i can use it cause i r one)

I hadn't thought about painting it and that sure would make it look better. That might just be the long term solution. However, with the rino liner I could clean the bugs off with a wirebrush and it would look the same all the time...
Any other suggestions out there?
I use Maguires Black Magic on my plastic parts that works pretty good. Another product is Stoners Trim Shine in a spray can. I found both at Kragens. I don't think I would paint it due to the beating that part takes from stones and gravel.

well a shine wont take care of dings and dents along with scratches

Thanks for the feedback on this. I have kept it clean and used the plastic cleaner products on it and it of course gets a few dings from the usual road debris, but the main thing with it is the overall discoloration and now uneven and faded look. Just making the van look old before her time... If it keeps bugging me I will try and paint it in the spring.
Dave:
I used a paint product I got from Dennis at ITP.
It worked rather well.
I cleaned the entire area with strong degreaser soap.
Then wiped down the entire bumper with laquer thinner.
Masked off the crome part of the bumper
then spray painted the area.
worked for me.
