Front End Alignment

My van has 10k miles on it and both front tires are showing wear on their inside treads. Does anyone here know what the front end alignment specification for toe in is? I have spoken with two shops in the area and one would not tell me and the other only said that the spec was 2 points (whatever that is in inches, he did not know).

Re: Front End Alignment

Straight from the 2000 E350 service manual. All measurements are in degrees:

Caster
LH 4.0 +/- 2.75
RH 4.5 +/- 2.75
Total/Split -0.5 +/- 1.0

Camber
LH 0.5 +/- 0.5
RH 0.5 +/- 0.5
Total/Split 0.0 +/- 0.5

Toe
Total/Split 0.06 +/- 0.25

Adjusting camber or caster is a specialized procedure. Make sure your alignment service is capable of doing this and will do it if required. Your cheaper alignment service typically does not perform this.

Re: Front End Alignment

Rob S. - Thanks for your reply. The only question is - is the toe per wheel or split between the two? Thanks for the help!

High Topped-

While you are in there you might think about putting in the SD1200 front springs. It helped the ride on my van substantially.

Re: Front End Alignment

Sam - thanks for the suggestion! I'm happy with the way this van rides weighting in at 6k. She rides smooth and stays pretty flat on the corners. She also handles my enclosed 8k trailer with no problems or changes in steering.
