Fuel Filter drain hose (E series)

After rebuilding my fuel filter I am thinking about the best way to rout the drain hose. In the past it was making a mess under my bus and I was not able to sample the fuel. Now I am thinking taking a longer hose and routing it to the top of the engine that I can drain it easy into a container for inspection. Cranking a few times would help moving the fuel in the container.
