FUEL FILTER MOUNTING NEED HELP?

i have a baldwin filter kit from dennis at ITP but when i tried to mount it on the inside of the frame the top of the bracket hits the rear a/c lines have three options
1- make a spacer to lower the filter bracket

2- mount on the outside of the frame plenty of clearance easy to get to but i will have to run fuel lines over the top of the frame rail.

3- mount on the drverside of tans crossmember(not crazy about this idea)
any advice ,thoughts , or pics of you you guys did it would be aprecciated THANK,Wade

Re: FUEL FILTER MOUNTING NEED HELP?

Mine's mounted to the outside frame rail and is still in one piece. The line crossing abouve the rail isn't ideal but seamed to be the best option. If this was gas I wouldn't do it but what can a little diesel do in a wreck?

Re: FUEL FILTER MOUNTING NEED HELP?

Airdog rides outside the frame rail. (see pics, below) He can stick his tongue into the breeze more easily that way! If this worries you, fabricate (or have fabricated) a bracket that guards your filter installation from side impact.

Re: FUEL FILTER MOUNTING NEED HELP?

THANKS guys , i knew i could count on you , looks like i'll go with the outside the frame rail mount i was only concerned with the routing of the fuel lines over the frame but it appears it will work , not worried about shielding it if it gets taken out in that spot i will have bigger problems than just a wrecked filter! THANKS AGAIN,Wade

Re: FUEL FILTER MOUNTING NEED HELP?

Actually, you do increase your level of risk and exposure by placing portions of your fuel pipeline outside the frame rail. A minor T-bone wreck that would be otherwise driveable has the potential now to be leaking your fuel out on the ground, which is messy and non-productive if you think your engine ought to run.
