E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
I just got a Scanguage. Really cool! But it asks what size tank. I looked at an owners manual for my gasser & it looks like its either a 35 or 37? I plugged in 37. Is that right? Or should I syphon out & refill to make sure.
i ve filled my 04 with 35.5 gallons....that was running on vapors

On these vans the last couple (4?) gallons is slow to fill, so I loaded a slightly smaller number into my Scangauge.
With a stock tank, I would use 31 or 32 gallons. That leaves a little reserve. With the reserve, I know I can go at least as far as the Scangauge calculates, even if the tank wasn't completely filled to the neck.
With my T-F 46g tank, I use 40 gallons as the tank size.
This doesn't affect any of the Scangauge calculations except things like: distance to empty, fuel to empty, time to empty, etc.

Around 37 gallons is the most I've gotten in mine filling to the neck as in " Captain I don't think she'll take any more...." Your sig says your Harpooned, so filling to the brim for you shouldn't take as long.
I don't have one, but in the other Scan Gauge thread, it seems it might take you a few tanks to get calibration sorted out, IOW checking how much you actually fill against what it thinks you burned, and recal the tank size accordingly.
Since I hand calc, I still sit there, unharpooned, and trickle in the last few gallons till it stands in the filler neck, no foam.
The Scan Gauge still won't be cooler than a F series cluster with tach though

While I love diesels, I don't need one, and unfortunately, after much deliberation its a hobby I currently cannot afford.......... Gone but not forgotten:
1999.5 F250 CC SB XLT 4WD, 7.3 PSD, First F,2nd Diesel, nice but still liked the van better.
2003 E-350 Super Duty Chateau (Club Wagon)7.3PSD, 3rd Clubwagon,First diesel, Never should have sold it....
It does take a few tanks to get the calibration sorted. But that has no effect on tank size.
For instance, if I entered a 100 gallon tank, the usage, mileage, etc. is unchanged. The only calculation affected are Distance to Empty, Hours to Empty, etc.

Why are there two different tank sizes, that differ by only two gallons?
That makes very little sense to me.
I don't recall looking up the capacity on my new one. My '96 E150 boasted a 41 gallon tank. The tank in my 2004 doesn't appear significantly different from the tank in my old gasser. What gives? Is the difference entirely in the vent dome and the vent? As in, diesel foams so it needs to use a larger portion of the vent dome?
