Fuel tank fill up -- take too long for last 5-7 gal

It takes WAY TOO LONG to fill the last 5-7 gallons of fuel in the midship tank on the van. Has anyone else seen this problem? I have never had the patience to top off all the way to the filler neck. Is there some way to correct this problem?

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that transfer flow had these kits

Re: Fuel tank fill up -- take too long for last 5-7 gal

When I fill up and I know I have about 7 gallons to go I set the handle to its slowest setting. When it clicks it only takes about 30 seconds to nurse the rest in. I found most diesel pumps to be fairly slow anyway so this works 99% of the time. During the slow setting I find things to do like check the oil, kick the tires, wash the windows, empty the trash, etc.

For all of you who have been asking how to fix your tank so it will fill full without taking 10 minutes to drizzle in the last several gallons, here's how:

While you have your tank off doing the Hutch mod and while the sending unit is out, reach into the tank toward the vent pipe (the small one next to the big fill tube) and you will find the vent tube extends down into the tank about 5 or 6 inches and is about an inch in diameter. With the tubing cutter you used on the steel tubing for the tank mod, reach into the tank, place the cutter on the plastic pipe and cut it off! If you do it as I did, this will leave about an inch of vent tube still attached and should leave an inch or so of air space.

After replacing the tank, you can now fill the tank to the 'visible in the neck' line as fast as you want! I did mine when I did the tank mod a month or so ago and waited to make sure it didn't have side effects...after a month the only side effect is that after the 'low fuel' light comes on and a few more miles I can get 33 gallons in the tank...and the last 5 gallons go in as fast as the first 25!

A caution for the gassers...if you overfill your tank check to make sure your not flooding any filter canisters!

So, *Harpoon* your tank... and fill fast!

Re: Fuel tank fill up -- take too long for last 5-7 gal

Mine always seems to read full after the pump clicks off, at least according to my Transfer Flow digital gauge. That said, I've never felt the need to take forever to top it off (main tank). The rear I fill slowly to prevent the long fill neck from foaming up, but seem to get it mostly full as well....
