Glow Plug Relay Location

My glow plugs are not working and I want to check the Relay but I can not find it. It shows a picture of one in my Haynes book but I don't see it anywhere. Where did they hide it?

Re: Glow Plug Relay Location

We will need to know what year the van is, as different engines have them in different places.

The 7.3 IDI NA has the GP relay at the rear of the engine, just behind the intake, and under the CDR valve.

Re: Glow Plug Relay Location

I have been woundering the same thing... Mine is from the year 2000.
Now there is a relay on the passenger fender... the one battery has it mostly covered... but I do not know if that is the relay for the starter or the glow plugs.

That relay on the passenger side is the starter relay, the GP and IAH relays are behind the fuel filter along the passenger side valve cover. To get to them I had on my 01 remove the resonator box and go in from the doghouse side. On mine IIRC the IAH is the forward relay and the GP is the rear relay. You might need to remove the Alt or A/C comp. can't remember which is on the passenger side along with moving the main engine connector out of the way to get to the IAH relay.

On the 1995 it should only have one relay, the GP relay and I'm fairly sure that on is also somewhere along the passenger side valve cover area.

Re: Glow Plug Relay Location

Thanks for the info. I found what I believe is a relay behind the battery next to the headlite on the drivers side? Can you identify this item? Thanks

Re: Glow Plug Relay Location

I have a 96 and the relay is on the passenger side just behind the fuel filter. The relay near the driver's headlight is the starter relay.

Technically that is one of two starter relays. Ford, in their infinite ?wisdom? retained their original relay, and used it as a trigger for the starter mounted relay on the gear reduction starters.
