E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
just got back from open house at Ruells in charlotte, nc..they had a mustang dyno, bbq, lot of truck guys sharing info...I was the only van there... put the ole girl on the rollers and pulled 310 rwhp w/917# torque...reached my goal of 300+ hp thanks to all who share info on this site...not bad for 286,000 miles ...didn't come close to Nolan's flamed dodge though , 540 hp w/1462# torque...awsum...there was a new f-350 w 6.0 that was chipped and had a new exhaust installed at ruells that day.. put out 380HP...Aceman, Shane says hi...tks to all for help here...see ya'll,..bd
Bill, congrats! I'am sure you were more than happy with these numbers.
The torque number seems a little high for the hp output.
How were your egt's when the dyno loaded you up?
Did you see 1350 or more degrees for a few seconds?
Was the dyno a Mustang MD-250?
After reading your signature,I'll bet Bill's chip had a little something to do with those awesome torque readings!
Tell Shane I said Hi.

I'm not expert in all this dyno, HP and torque stuff, but based on the general dyno results in the below links 310/917 with only a 45/70 chip and exhaust somehow doesn't add up. With a conservative 15% drivetrain loss that would put Flywheel HP at around 365HP which is an increase of 150HP from a 45/70 chip over stock ... You can see my completely stock dyno results in my signature .
The 380 on the 6.0L with the mod box sounds reasonable, but most of those mod boxes have a rating in the 125 to 135HP or so in the hot setting. You can see a couple dyno examples below of these 125 to 135 hot boxes on a flywheel rated 325HP 6.0L:
And you can see even in the mid 350HP torque is in the lower 600ft-lb range and in the upper 370/380 HP range torque is still below 700ft-lbs. Not sure how you can get 917ft-lbs from 310HP
I don't know how the Dodge HP/Torque values should be, but based on some the the higher runs HERE it looks line HP in the upper 500's are still under 1100 ft-lbs. It looks like it takes close to 770HP to approach 1400 ft-lbs in torque, so again 540HP and 1462 ft-lbs somehow doesn't make sense
I don't know maybe I'm missing something and I admitted in my first sentence in this post that I'm no expert in all this so I know Shane understands all this "stuff" any maybe he will chime in here and explain what part of the "sandbox" I have my head buried in

Tom, I didn't dyno the van so I don't know the #'s on the egts...A Mustang dyno (portable) pretty positive Shane said this was the same dyno that was at the NE rally so you guys take it from there...and you're right about Bill's chip I had it on the "safe tow" lo side so long that I had forgotten about the fun side...If the torque figures are wrong , so what , they were wrong for everyone then, all I know is that the hp figures were right on afa everyone's ride and what they expected... 3 trucks that dyno'd in march 03 put out exactly the same hp as before,...when I dyno'd in march (256/574# tq)I had a 3" downpipe and the stock EBPV housing with a 60 hp superchips programmer, and 85 series mudgrip studded tires.. this go around with the 75hp dpp chip, the van turbo adaper into the 31/2" downpipe and 4" exhaust, 03 HPOP, and stock size tires produced 292hp on the first pull, second pull netted the 310 figure (tqe reading may be high --good marketing though).....stock duramax diesel with 31 miles pulled 272hp...go figure fun day ...later bd
Larry has a very good point, the torque numbers sound high for you and the Dodge both. Horsepower sounds good though
