Heater core!

Hi all!! Happy thanks giving day!!
OK, 91 e350 e4od. the heater core has never been connected since I got it last yr.. I suspect that the PO cut the hoses and bypassed it because of leaking ford O ring connectors... But I still have to pull it to check it before I just hook it up..( I don't need lake Sonoma in my floor boards )... SO .... any body here change their heater core and what's the thing to look out for!!!! Looks a job to me...

Re: Heater core!

This info from 93 book so it may be wrong.......slightly.

Remove the snap in modesty panel that runs around the lower edge of the instrument panel.

Remove the six screws from the heater core covers located on both sides of the case underneath the instrument panel. Remove cover.

Remove heater core and seal from the case........

Re: Heater core!

Thanks It looked like I'd have to pull the dash, or at least part of it. the trans computer is mounted to the bottom of the heater housing on mine..... just ordered a 94 tcm, supposedly has the latest programing....

Re: Heater core! r&r the hard way

So .... to pull the heater core on a 91 e350 w ac ...... 2 screws on the top to remove the modesty panel that covers the air box. the bottom is held by a plastic peg on the air box. next to the Engine cover tunnel is a cover w 4 sheetmetal screws, 2 top , 2 bottom. take them out, then slide this cover back, toward the seat. Inside one screw holds a plastic bracket to the core. If you have managed to get the stupid "O" crap ring fittings of the core spigots( or senceably already switched to regular hose and clamps ) the heater core should pull straight back from the firewall and into your hands for a quick trip to the radiator shop for Merv to say : "WoW that's heavy! and It's a piece of junk!!!!! look here it's allllll eaten w electralisis .let's just order a nice new brass one for you....." you DO NOT need to remove the whole heater box from the firewall to get just the heater core. However........if you need to service the condenser Or have a problem w low or no air flow..... you may have to pull the whole thing to clean out the air intake which is in the pass fender and can clog up w leaves and crap that fell in the loovers in front of the windshield.... A screen on the air box keeps all the crap from being sucked into the heater. I just did all this ,, that's how I know

Re: Heater core! r&r the hard way

The "94 tcm" is the transmission control module. on my 91' van it's mounted on the bottom of the hot air box.I read that if you have an e4do trany, a wise move would be to the latest programing for the tcm, which is from the 94 model yr, the last yr w a stand-alone trans computer. If it's been replaced since 94 w a remanufacured box, it's probaly got the new software in it.......
on my van , there's no glove box. that area is All filled w air condioning/heater air flow parts......

Re: Heater core! r&r the hard way

I think he was talking about a different kind of vehicle when he talked about removing a glove box. The 92 ups don't have em, I don't believe the 74 - 91's did either.
