Help with a Dana 61 on a '83 E350

I have what I think is a Dana 61. It is from a '83 E350. The axle code on the door sticker is C4. The bill of material (605022-7) number gives me Dana 61, 3.73, LS. Doesn't that sound right? Anyway, it is missing the passenger's side hub and drum. Anyone know how expensive these items are? Also, any information on the Dana 61 would be greatly appreciated. I know jack about the 61. I was thinking about putting this axle under my F250 because of the LS diff. Would it be cheaper/better to just buy a LS diff for my 10.25 axle, or to rebuild and use the Dana 61? Any information would be greatly appreicated.

Your 10.25 will have bigger stronger axle shafts. Also a larger stronger ring gear and pinion gear. The LS in the 61 will likely need rebuilt, spend the money on the Sterling.

The main reason that you shouldn't use this axle is that the differential is not in the center. The engine and the entire driveline is moved over towards the passenger side approximately 2-4 inches(?) in the vans so that the driver has "enough" room for his feet and the pedals. I would expect vibrations and short U-joint life.

I'm not sure about that. Both the Dana 61 (from the E350) and the 10.25 on the truck have the pinion 2 inches closer to the passengers side. The yoke is in the same location. The axle tubes are the same lengths from the yoke on both axles. Maybe this changed in later models, but the old Dana 61 doesn't differ in that respect to the 10.25 on the F-series.
