HELP: Ford Econoline 350, 88 Horsepower needed

I have Econoline 350, made in 1988.
It has 7.3 diesel in it, non-turbo.
Does anybody know, what's engine rated wheel horsepower?
No upgrates were made.
Unfortunately I can’t find reference manuals or other information on this model year. Ford dealerships give me only wild guesses between 175 and 180. Ford company itself said, they didn't know!
Where I can find some document, stating the horsepower of my engine?
Can anybody help?
That's very important
Thanks

Re: HELP: Ford Econoline 350, 88 Horsepower needed

It's marked right on the valve cover. Van and pickups should have the same horsepower so if you can find the HP for a 88 pickup it will be the same.

Newer vans and trucks have different HP levels because of different programming and intercoolers, all of which an 88 lacks.

Re: HELP: Ford Econoline 350, 88 Horsepower needed

Here's something I came across.

Eighth generation (1987–1991)
Eighth generation

Production 1987–1991
Engine 4.9 L I6
5.8 L Windsor V8
6.9 L Diesel V8
7.5 L 385 V8
7.3 L IDI Diesel V8
5.0 L Windsor V8
The 1987 refresh was evolutionary. The design was more streamlined, and maintenance items were made simpler. Rear antilock brakes were now standard, the first truck to boast this. The manual transmission was revised with five speeds in 1988, and the flareside box was dropped. For 1987 the 4.9 L had standard fuel injection; for 1988, the 5.8 L and 7.5 L also gained fuel injection, with 1988 being the first year no carbureted engines were offered. 1988 also saw the replacement of the 6.9 L diesel with a 7.3 L International Harvester IDI diesel.

Four wheel drive improvements included the addition of automatic locking hubs for the F-150 in 1989, and for the rest in 1991. Also, on the four wheel drive models, it featured a solid front axle, however it was hinged in the middle and connected to the frame. This offered both coil and leaf springs. The 5.0 L truck also had an optional "Touch Drive" electronic transfer case.

Engines:

1987-1991 - 4.9 L straight-6, EFI, 150 hp (112 kW)
1987 - Windsor 5.8 L V8
1987 - 6.9 L Diesel V8, 170 hp (127 kW)
1987 - 7.5 L 460 V8, 245 hp (183 kW)
1988-1991 - 460 7.5 L V8, EFI, 230 hp
1988-1991 - 7.3 L International Harvester IDI Diesel V8, 180 hp
1987-1991 - Windsor 5.0 L V8, EFI, 185 hp
1988-1991 - Windsor 5.8 L V8, EFI, 210 hp

Thanks!
It's very informative.
Could you refer me to the document, which states this 180 HP?

Re: HELP: Ford Econoline 350, 88 Horsepower needed

Clean off your drivers' side valve cover, the sticker is probably still there that states the horsepower.

Other than that, you'd have to find some 1988 sales literature for an "official" Ford document.

Re: HELP: Ford Econoline 350, 88 Horsepower needed

That's what I'm trying to do: looking for literature ordocuments, stating the engine HP. There is no labels on engine unfortunately. I just need some reference, where can I get this info.

Re: HELP: Ford Econoline 350, 88 Horsepower needed

I don't know if it would be considered "official" but my Chilton's truck & van repair manual lists horsepower specs for the various engines (unfortuately it only goes to 1986, before the 7.3 was produced).

The truck & van manual is a hardback book covering all domestic vehicles. My softback Chiltons does NOT list horsepower levels.

I don't have any Ford factory drivetrain manuals, but they "may" list horsepower levels.

Re: HELP: Ford Econoline 350, 88 Horsepower needed

It's for tax purposes: tax base is calculated by multiplying horsepower on some number.
