E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.

Just picked up a sweet E350 - happened so fast my head is still spinning.
I've been casually looking for alternatives to my '97 F250 - it's a great truck, but my wife just wouldn't join me on the road trips due to the harsh ride and lack of creature comforts. Took a look at 7.3 Excursions, but wasn't thrilled with the test drives - the lack of a 4.10 rear made them dogs compared to my F250 PSD off the line, and I'm just not comfortable sinking a wad into a new 6.0 given the reports I've read.
Then about a week ago, I stumbled across this forum and was intrigued. Particularly after I started looking into some of the conversions available from SMB and others - my wife was liking what she saw. Still, the thought of buying new with a 6.0 was scaring me off; not only because of reliability concerns, but the fact that they are detuned so much for the vans was frustrating. So, I decided to keep half an eye open for a newer, low mileage 7.3.
Boy did I find one...as luck would have it, a guy fairly local to me put up an ad here for a 2003 E350 4x4 Quigley, with only 19K miles on it. Just drove it home...let the fun begin!
Here are a few pics - it's got a few goodies, but it's fairly stock. While I like the looks of the Weld rims + 35's, I'll probably lose the tires; they sing a little too much for me, amd most of my driving will be freeway. Also, the roof rack and rear ladder is incredibly beefy and well built; the owner had a friend weld it up for him, but unfortunatley it will have to go as well - one of the first things on my list is an SMB Penthouse top.
Anyway, thanks to all of you for contributing to this great resource, and I'm looking forward to swapping ideas with you guys as the rig gets built up.
Bill

WOW what a find and sweet looking ride
The membership here is fairly exclusive , but you've already paid your dues for a lifetime membership when you made your purchase so WECLCOME and ask away.
There are two active TDS Vanners in Ca ... one in the LA area and one around the San Fran area, both Quigley owners and I think one has a SMB.

very nice ride. Big O has a fairly quiet 35" tire that works well, but I cant remember which.
post the rack for sale on ebay or something, it is very nice.
good luck on your project, I had a 89 pathfinder conversion with a 6.9/banks turbo it was a lot of fun, enjoy.

No comparison at all when empty, even with what I'm assuming is a little added stiffness from the 4x4 conversion. Much, much smoother. I've not noticed any of the wandering I've seen some of you report, but I haven't driven it in any twisties or on bad surfaces yet. The former owner added some sort of steering stabilizer up front, not sure what problem that was meant to solve.
I haven't had the boat hooked up yet, had to track down another ball mount yesterday with more drop. I'll see how it feels towing in the next couple days.

Judging from your choice of van color, you must be an intelligent, forthright, discerning, charming, engaging, and gregarious kind of guy.
However, I wish I could have warned you before you made the purchase...
