Re: How do you remove a column mounted shift lever?
clev
There is a pin staked in the lever to hold it on. Follow the lever into the column you will see the pin (on top). Take a drift and tap it out from the bottom up.

Thanks mad; I just came in to post "at first if you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer", LOL. I'm not sure what I'm going to find when finally get this column apart.
Re: How do you remove a column mounted shift lever?
There were three mounting screws/bolts from the back of the shift lever ???band/housing???, that connected to the front part of the housing/tilt mechanism. Two of the 3 screws had worked loose. When I tightened them, it took a lot of 'play' out of the tilt mechanism. It wasn't necessary to remove the shift lever, but I didn't notice the screws until after I had removed it. Anyway, hopefully it will pass inspection tomorrow. In the 23 years that I've had the van, I've never heard of 'play' in the tilt mechanism being grounds for failing an inspection.
