E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
Just a simple question today. We have had our van for a month now and the I have waxed the sides 3 times but I can't figure how to wash and wax the top. Even if I stand on a latter I can't reach the center of the top. How do you experienced 350 van owners do yours.

Climb on up there, be careful and watch where
you put your weight, if I stay close to the edge it can handle my weight and I have never dented the roof, I am a svelte 240# I use spray on wax, I don't want to spend too much time up there.
To wash the roof I have a telescoping brush that I picked up at an RV store, I also use a
ladder when washing.

Had an E-350 4x4.. found a brush that fit a broom handle, made by Rubbermaud, sized to fit a 5 gal mud bucket.. think I found it at Home Depot... will never be without one now.
I use a step ladder and a car wash brush. The brush I have has a 5 ft handle and is very soft.
To wax the roof I use the step ladder and a blanket folded 3 times between the van and step ladder. I lay on the roof to get the center and work my way out the the edge. I use an orbital buffer to take the wax off. Works great and saves time.
Have fun

I have washed our 2000 3 or 4 times now, since we picked it up at the end of September. Based on reading this topic, I have become very ashamed to say that I have yet to wash the whole top, just a little above the windsheild and near the back, what can be reached easily from the rear bumper. I hang my head in shame.
On a positive note, I waxed it the first time this weekend and did wax the same areas mentioned. From now on, I suppose I will be washing the ENTIRE roof.
Also, as part of the waxing, I found a couple paint flaws, near the rear quarter panel on the driver side, there is a hair under the paint, and to the right of the right rear door, the paint is rough, like it has paint overspray on it, and was not sufficiently buffed out. I will review these with the dealer when I take it in today for its second oil change (8500 miles so far, including a 5500 mile trip to California from MN).
