E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
I installed bilstein shocks on the front end..now it's elevated just enough that I need to raise the rear to keep a level ride...I have a cargo van and I know when I get 1,000# shipment it's going to make my headlights go airborne...what's the safest way to elevate the rear "add-a leaf"..blocks...?? btw I have air shocks now..thanks guysbd
Bill,I just added spacer blocks under my leaf springs to give the rear end a 3" lift.
Currently, the van is higher in the rear than the front by 1 1/2".
By adding blocks the ride quality will not suffer as all you are doing is raising the vehicle.
If you add additional leaf springs the ride quality will be stiffer.
I load a maximum of about 800lbs of batteries at the rear of my van and the blocks work great for my application.
The rear of the van does go down with the weight but is level with the front end with no sag.
The less expensive route would be to install the blocks.
I'am guessing you would need 2" blocks for your application.
It costs me $125.00 total to have blocks made and installed at my local spring shop.
Or,you could have them made and instal them yourself.
Just remember that you also need longer u bolts and new nuts fore the u bolts.
I just found it easier and faster having the spring shop install the blocks. Took about 3/4 hour from start to finish.
