Injector O-ring replacement

Well , It looks like I have to do my o-rings. I think they are original although a few injectors looked different when I rebuilt my fuel system 2 years ago. Truck has 373,000 kms ( 233 k miles) on it . I seem to have an internal HP oil system leak. It is only getting up to 300 psi . I changed my IPR , got about 450 , it started then I shut it off and it never started again . I will be attempting it myself. Hopefully it will go smoothly. I heard I have to remove the passenger motor mount bolt and Jack the passenger side up to remove the inside injectors. Has anyone done this ? Does anyone know of a Van specific Injector re & re ? Any tips will be appreciated .

when Ryan (Beans Diesel Performance) installed injectors in my 98 van he took the solenoid off the top of the "problem" injectors so they would clear the dog box...install the solenoid after putting injector in its hole...only had to do that to 1 injector...

good idea to put new valve cover harnesses in at the same time...you're right there and its good cheap insurance for the future

Injectors are in . . . What a nightmare . . . I had to remove the motor mount nuts on both sides , and transmission , Jack the engine up with bottle jacks on both sides , one at a time . Then the engine got stuck I had to unstick it with a huge prybar. The had to remove the starter , Downpipe , Alternator , AC compressor , Drain the coolant to remove the upper rad hose, Both Seats , one I had to drill and Tap the seat bolts because they broke. Had to cut the downpipe off because some inbred moron decided to weld the nuts on. Ohter than that it was straight forward. It rained half the time so I lost about 3 days there. One connector was burn't ( glow plug) after only 35,000 kms so I replaced the gasket and connectors. The other ones are new from before. Trust me this was quite the challenge. Looking back it might be easier to remove the engine like the meccanics suggested. Also I had to McGiver one of my shop Vacs with plastic hose to suck out the fuel /oil from the cylinders, what a pain. F-series is a joke compared to what we have to do . . . I could probably change o-rings in a F series in a couple hours now after doing this.
I can't believe the curba ran as good as it did. The o-rings were toast. I can't wait to start her up tomorrow. I still have a few holes to drill /Tap and have to re-install most of the stuff I took off. I will also change the oil even though this oil only has a about 300 miles on it. I'm to paranoid to take a chance on 60 bucks of oil VS 5 grand for an engine.
Parts cost me 250 including the oil rail end plugs @ 20 bucks each and The Ford Lubricicity additive was like 5 bucks. I got quoted 2500 by a Garage , because they said they would have to remove the motor. They wern't even going to kiss me first . . . Unbelievable. Hopefully she will start and i should be seeing significantly better fuel mileage I'll let y'all know when she runs again . . . Hopefully tomorrow .

If it is any consolation, the 6.0's are no easier. I watched a tech spend 3 days to replace one injector, put it back together, test drive, and then take it back apart to replace an injector on the other side. Fortunately under warranty.

Here's hoping your runs as well after as mine did.

Mike

It's ALIVE . . . .

Well finally got the puta running . . . No leaks so far . . . Have to go for a good cruise and get the rest of the air out of the system but so far so good. So if anyone needs to do their injectors , on a 7.3 you know who knows what time it is . Thanks for all the support.

injector replacement

I just removed my injectors from a 96 E450 shuttle bus. With the exception of no passenger seat (but WITH 2 extra a-c hoses + 2 heater hoses over the left valve cover) the same as a regular van. I got everything off from the rear (interior) side. Didnt remove Alt or a-c compressor-nor did i jack up the motor. Only tuff one was 2nd back on the passenger side-that one i took the advice the above post and removed the solinoid.
