I'm looking to install a RAM laptop mount in the ash tray hole. Anyone have any experience installing GPS or Laptop mounts in their van? Where did you mount it? Whose mount and what model? Thanks for your help.
I have a Magellan and use the car mount that suction cups to the windshield at the left edge. For the laptop itself, I have not gone that far. I may just put a milk crate on the floor with a piece of plywood and velcro the laptop to it.
Which laptop do you use?

I made a univeral table for under $10. The basic construction along with the table both unmounted and mouted are shown in the last three pics HERE. With this set up I can rotate the table top to any orientation and install/remove it in seconds. NOTE: I just moved the pic of the table top installed so it might take a little while for it to show up in the album.

I am using a 15" Toshiba laptop in my 2002 E-350. This is the second van that I have mounted a laptop in. I have used the mounts from SMC both times. They are a company outside of Houston. Their web page is www.smc-corp.com. I have it mounted on my glove box/drink holder that slides onto the engine doghouse. The mount covers up the ashtray that is there, but I am still able to use the drink holders and whatever that hole is between the holders. I used their laptop mount. It consists two parts. One is a composite board that mounts with STOUT double stick tape to the bottom of your laptop. You can trim holes in this board if it covers up access panels that you regularly use in the bottom of your laptop. Then you slide the laptop/board onto the mount and then lock it in place with a key lock. I used a couple of flat plates and pivot mount from SMC to secure the mount to the drink holder. The visible part on the top of the drink holder consists of the flat plate, the laptop mount with a pivot where it connects to the plate. Then under the ashtray I mounted another plate that screws to the plate with the laptop mount. This kinda squeezes the plates together using the ashtray as a spacer. Using this mount gives you a little security and a whole lot of safety. Keeps the laptop from becoming a missle in an accident.I hope I explained this where you can understand it. If you need any more info, just ask.
Thanks,
Kevin
