Modify stock turbo on 2002 E350

Does anyone know if it is possible to boost the stock turbo pressure up or any other way to get more power just by making adjustments to the stock parts

roughneck,welcome.
There is no way possible that I know to increase the boost on your stock van turbo.
The only way to increase boost is to add modifications such as:

Wicked wheel (turbo compressor wheel)
Performance chip or programmer
Aftermarket muffler and or complete exhaust system w/ 3 1/2" downpipe
10k mod (only way I know to add more fuel with stock parts but I don't really think this mod is good for our vans)
Propane injection
Regulator kit (not sure if this kit will increase boost pressure)

What do you want to use your van for?
If you just want a little more power, a chip and good aftermarket muffler will do wonders.
If you want a race van,be prepared to take on a second mortage!

Take it easy,
Tom

Re: Modify stock turbo on 2002 E350

Thanks for the info Tom. This Van is a work truck that wieghts about 8000lbs and regularly tows trailers that wieght up to 6000lbs.
Sometimes I wonder about getting more power but money is a little tight right now and was looking for a cheap way to do this.
Someone mentioned about drilling holes in the air box. Has anyone else tried this and does it work?

Re: Modify stock turbo on 2002 E350

Bye the way my truck is a 2002 & totally stock. This is my fourth diesel van. It is much harder to start than any of my other ones when it is below 20 degrees outside unless I plug it in. On most of my job sites I cannot do this and I few times it almost did not start before the batterys got too low. My other three had no problems even at 6 below 0. They cranked very slow but always started with out being plugged in. I would cycle the glow plugs two or three times and they would always start. This one has made me start carrying starting fluid around. The dealer tells me that everything is normal and I just have to plug it in when its cold and all year engines behave differently. This does not sound normal. I told him to expect a call to give me a jump start if it ever does not start.

Re: Modify stock turbo on 2002 E350

Roughneck,

There have been threads on this forum discussing ways to open up the air box. Not too sure if the results have been conclusive.

My 02 also starts hard when it gets below the freezing mark. Have had it in to the dealer twice. Once they replaced the IRC and the second time they reprogrammed the PCM. Still won't start very well when it gets cold.

The dealer suggests plugging it in below 40 degrees. Let me say right now that F**d's market share of diesel LT's would plummet if they all had to be plugged in below 40.

Although it is still in warranty, I really hate to let the dealer do much more fiddling around with it. No codes are showing up. He is wondering if it might need a new oil pump.

We need it get our vehicles to someone who knows what is going on. For me that is an hour away in Waco.

Good luck,

Yardbrew
