New to the board--

Been reading the boards for the past month or so. Alot of interesting information here. Purchased a 93 model E-350 type III ambulance a couple of months ago. No issues with the engine, just been doing the filter and fluid changes. Found some paperwork under the seat where the engine was rebuilt by IH 3k miles ago. Being as this is my first diesel and Ford it has been fun trying to figure out what everything does. Anyhow- this was purchased to replace my present tow vehicle. Will be alot easier to camp out of than my Suburban. Have just got to the brakes and am now replaceing all the components. There wasn`t any rust on it EXCEPT for the RABS unit mounted to the frame under the driver seat. All the lines broke off and the unit itself was delaminating from the corrosion. To think I have driven it this way kinda makes me think. -- It`s been a bit hard finding 3/4-1 ton Ford parts in the local boneyards here in North Alabama - I know where all the jeeps and AMC`s were but never paid attention to the big Fords.

I do however have 1 question- Bleeding brakes with the RABS unit- there appears to be a glob of rust that resembles a bleed valve on the RABS unit (or pressure metering valve?). Is there any special way to bleed this other than crack it open and do it first?

Thanks- Drayson

Welcome!

I've killed more than a little time in your hometown, as I've got kinfolk there.

Go easy with the towing until you can find out whether your tranny was rebuilt at the same time. The tranny will be your weak link until you can upgrade or reinforce it.

Sweet, hope they did a good job. How many miles on are the odometer.

I believe you got it, you just turn the knob and it opens just like a bleed screw on the calipers and what not. It sounds like you might want to replace it though...

Re: New to the board--

Just got through replacing the entire brake system. Found a RABs unit in a junkyard for 25.00 off a 93 gas burning e-350. Have been pulling some of the panels and cabinets from the inside and have found some interesting things. The strangest being what I believe to be a pertified toe complete with toenail. (this is an ambulace) Had it sitting on the bumper and I watched the neighbors cat run off with it. It came from a cubbyhole that the stretcher fits in.

Re: New to the board--

My wife calls it the "The Leviathon" The neighbors call it names I wouldn`t want to repeat on this board. For the first week, their lights would come on when I cranked it at 5:00 am to go to work. But I suppose they have been been "hardened" over the past few weeks -don`t get much response now.

I`m glad I didn`t bring it up first, but hanging it from the rear view did pop in my head.
