New member, tranny problems.

Let me start off by saying hi as this is my first post, and that I am not very mechanically inclined when it comes to working on vehicles unfortunately. I have an 01' E350 Super Duty 15passenger van w/ the 5.4. A couple months back the check engine light came on along with the overdrive light on the shifter blinking constantly. It kind of jerked into gear at that point. I went to a local autoparts store and got them to pull the codes which were P1744 and P0743. A day or two later the check engine light and blinking of the od light went away and seemed to be back to normal. Fast forward to yesterday. It started rev'ing real high before it would go into gear and has progressively gotten much worse today and has started to make all kinds of raquet. It really winds the motor out unless I'm above about 44mph (whatever gear that is) but even in that gear and the motor not winding out it is obvious something isnt right. Any insight would be much appreciated as I depend on this van for work, no van no money.

I just Google'd those codes and they appear to be related to your torque converter (not locking, circuit problem). I would definitely get it to a tranny shop or your Ford dealer for repair.

ON EDIT: Oh, and welcome to the site!

check the connector that connects the wiring harness to the sol pack in the tranny.

this is located on the rear right of tranny. you have to remove a panel that protects it and is marked "do not remove". there are 2 5/16 or 8mm bolts that hold that panel in place. just loosen them and slide the plate off to gain better access to the plug.

inspect the plug for corrosion. i just replaced mine today due to corrosion and the sol pack along with it. it was tripping codes that related to torque conv faulty circuit and tranny temp codes. my van would slip in and out of overdrive and keep the torque conv locked up when coming to a stop.

hope this helps. this is a 700 to 800 dollar fix if it is the problem because you have to change the plug(300), sol pack(240), fluid and labour.

So far cracked flywheel, shop is going to go through the tranny also to make sure everything is on the up and up with that. I suspect the torque converter is toast also but we'll see.
