No More Bottoming

My '03 Quigley has always been a little quick to bottom out, and with 600 lbs of plow cantilevered out there....fogedaboudit.

The new '05 doesn't seem to have the same problem.

On Wednesday I called Tiger at Quigley and told him about my situation. He compared the build sheets from the two trucks and told me that the '03 has 4200 lb front springs and the '05 has 4600 lb front springs. The new springs arrived at my place on Friday ($198).

The install is as easy as pie and took less than 90 minutes for the pair. Best of all, the bottoming problem seems to be cured.

The new springs are less than 1/2" longer than the old ones, so I'm not overly concerned about making a castor adjustment, and the van tracked perfectly so no alignment seems necessary.

If you have the same problem, I recommend this as the cure.

Re: No More Bottoming

You can also install air bags in the spring. I use the air bag and can adjust according to load of the day.

Re: No More Bottoming

So are you saying that we could walk into a dealership and say, 'one set of 2005 E350 front springs, please?' Or would we need to specify the 4600 pound info as well?

Re: No More Bottoming

Well....I'm talking Quigley. I don't know what comes in the stock van. But yes, the springs that Quigley sent me are Ford parts.

I'll post the part numbers tomorrow.

Re: No More Bottoming

Actually, the 4600lb Front GVWR option spring was available in 2003. My van has them. It was called the one up option or something like that. Your '03 could have been ordered that way from Ford before being sent to Quigley. There was a discussion on it quite a while back (last year maybe). Fortunately hanging a plow is something I don't have to worry about.
