Oil consumption

I am approaching my first oil change after a major overhaul. I added 1.5-2 l over 8000 km ( 5000 mi ). Is that normal consumption for a PSD with 345k kms (225k mi.). I personally don't think that is alot of oil thatt burns/leaks.
Anyone have any thoughts ?
PS 1 qt. = 0.968 l

Re: Oil consumption

I will lose about 1 1/2 quarts in the 1st thousand miles after oil change. After that, none to speak of until the next change. If I top it off after that 1st thousand......will lose 1 1/2 quarts in the next thousand miles. Will not (unless I'm hauling a heavy load) lose any more than 1 1/2 quarts before the next change.

Quite a few people here have the same thing happen to them. Strange, but that's the way it is on some of them.

Mine has about 250,000 miles on it and has done that since the day I purchased it.

If I'm hauling a lot of weight on a trip it might drop down to 2 quarts low. I go ahead and top it off in those situations (I also count on doing an earlier oil change on the rare occassion that I do cary an extra heavy load).

BTW I go 7,500 miles between changes and have blackstone labs test my oil on every 3rd oil change..........so far, so good. Again, if I'm hauling heavy.......I'll cut that mileage in half for the change.

Major overhaul, means = it's fresh now, right? You ask if that is normal for 225k mi. Dont you mean closer to 0mi. ? (rings & bearings etc...)
Also I've read that checking it hot = approx quart still up in motor that hasn't drained down. I always run mine "1/2 to add" on the stick. & try to do my oil change when it is lowest(on the add mark). When I change oil & filter, I put new filter in big coffee can to keep it upright & fill it up with new oil real good(while old oil is still dripping out of engine, & I aim for approx 1hr dripping time to get out as much of old oil as possible. & it is still dripping then!)Then I fill to approx 1/2 way on stick with new oil (short engine run to prime up all channels/ports). Next morning before start, the dip stick will show a little over top of full mark. my .02

Re: Oil consumption

No ,what I meant by overhaul was fuel system /IDM/wiring/ gaskets/ Turbo not bearings or rings ie;internal engine parts are untouched . . . sorry about that. At any rate It seems like I'm OK for now . I have the bottle from blackstone , so I will let you know when I get the results. Thanks for the responses.
