Rear AC blend door broken

My rear AC unit suddenly stopped blowing cool air......blew hot air instead.

I discovered that the door which directs the air to either the AC condenser or the heater core had broken where it is attached to the vacuum motor.

Now the door remains in the default position which is heat.

I never use the auxiliary for heat but often use it for AC.

The door is a piece of plastic about 4" x 6". The stealer wants $107 for a new one.

My question is: Has anyone ever changed one out before? Does the AC unit have to be removed from the vehicle (not a pleasant thought) ?

I can remove the fan motor and see and feel the door inside the unit. I might just fasten it in the permanent AC mode rather than pay $197.

These doors break all the time. I've replaced one in place using long needle nose pliers and a lot of four letter words. I removed a bunch of the clips holding the two housing halves together and worked through the opening.

I When I did this job about 6 years ago, I recall that it only cost about $15 or so. You might want to check another dealer for a price.

I had mine out without removing the unit. When I found out what it was the dealer told me I had to buty the whole unit for like $400. I pull the fan motor twice a year and move the door manually and put a screw in it to hold it in place for A/C. I thought of hooking it up with a manual choke cable, but have not gotten around to that yet.

Mine broke in the same way, but I could not come up with an easy way to put in the replacement.
So I just wired the door in "permanent AC" mode, don't need rear heat here ever.
