Replaced Pedal Assy

Replaced my pedal assy yesterday due to several "dead" pedal events...I've had several times in the past 2 months that a "return to idle" happened ,mostly under acceleration or deceleration but it always kicked back to normal after lifting and reappling pedal pressure...I recently switched to an 01 PCM (DP-Jody programs))and still had the same dead pedal issue after that, so I couldn't blame it on the old 98 computer, and Jody checked out the 01 unit , so the pedal assy got the boot...later.bd

Re: Replaced Pedal Assy

SIXIRON
At the time of your dead ped did you notice if your heat was on and ped was hot? The same dead ped (idle only) has happen to me but i have to turn off the ign an restart to clear the dead ped. It seems sometimes the idle val switch sticks during accel and pcm gets both sigs and doesn't know what to do so as a saftey feature it goes into idle only. And this only has happen when the heat is on. The duct in the van blows the heat down onto the ped assembly. Has annyone on long hauls had the hot right FOOT? I installed a deflector on the duct to direct the air away from foot and ped. Since this mod i have not had an dead ped.

Re: Replaced Pedal Assy

Interesting...could be heat related as you mentioned...AFAIC it was time for a replacement for my own peace of mind ( I had an extra 01 pedal assy) ...today I have noticed a smoother operation up thru the shifts and smoother idle...

and yes... I have had the hot foot after long drives, and you are correct about the vent throwing out heat on the pedal assy...

Now I'll have to add that to my list of "improvements"...
thanks , bill

Re: Replaced Pedal Assy

My 03 had the same failure of the idle validation switch at 62k miles. 25cent switch not available seperate but on a $150 pedal assembly - thanks ford. Of course the pedal assy is not on the ford list of warrenty parts for the drive train and gee, i'm over my 50k warrenty.

Mine didnt seem to care what temp it was at, did it several times stone cold, several times when warm. I buy the entire pedal assembly and it hasn't done it since. Maybe I'll be changing the pedal as often as the serpentine belt - no that's still working fine...

This thread has reminded me to try and find a new switch in a supply catalog and just replace that. It sure looks like it wasn't made just for this purpose.
