replacement driveshaft

starting to do some maintenance on my new-to-me e350SD PSD, and in doing an motor and diff oil change (trans soon - tough to find 20qts of Mobil1 ATF), i noticed a fairly sizeable dent in the driveshaft. probably 1/2" deep. i do have a fairly significant vibration @ ~55-65mph, and i have replaced the tires to no avail, so I believe this might be the culprit. any suggestions on finding a replacement? i assume getting one from a dealer will be embarrasingly expensive - any recyclers that might have one?

i knew the truck had been in an accident before i bought it and the oil pan is dinged also. from a quick look, i'd assume replacing the pan is a major job - can someone confirm?

Re: replacement driveshaft

To replace oil pan motor has to come out of van.
The drive shaft can be rebuilt. Find a rebuilder, they will cut your yokes off of the old shaft to build you a new shaft.

Re: replacement driveshaft

Where are you ? Here in S Fl., There is a place called Broward Drive trane. They are in yellow pages under "driveshaft" (I think) Try your yellow pages. Usually they balance them, so they could check it before tube replacement. Most big trucks ,like dump trucks are familier with places like these. ask truckers for good place.

Re: replacement driveshaft

I just got a replacement rear driveshaft built at www.4xshaft.com (I have a 4x conversion, and whanged the shaft on a rock a week ago).

The shaft runs very smoothly, more so than the original if I recall correctly, and cost about 370$ shipped. Not cheap (and I will endevor not to whang this one) but not too bad.

i called the local ford truck (commercial) dealer and asked for a price on the driveshaft. i didn't know the wheelbase on mine, so he couldn't guarentee it, but he guessed and said the one he was looking at was ~$300. he then proceeded to tell me that when they needed driveshaft work done, they called A-1 driveshaft in landover MD. i haven't called them yet, what with all the holiday insanity, but i'm going to give them a ring after the new year and see what their story is.

thanks for all the help!
