Results of EBPS delete & 203 thermostat

Finally some warm weather stayed around here and I was able to get some mods done that I had been waiting to do for a long time..(after Golf that is)...
1. MY BTS tranny now has 186,000 miles and I wasn't getting the passing gear downshift like it was when I left Brian's...found a thread here:"
If you're from a warm climate, the ebpv might not need to close (according to programming). Both my 96 & 97 take quite a while to warm up all the way - between N and O in NORMAL. The PCM looks at the Engine Oil Temp sensor to decide a lot of things. Below 140* EOT, the PCM advances timing and may add fuel. If your motor gets above 140* EOT pretty quick, you may not feel a difference.

However, if the truck will not downshift when you put your foot down, you may have a issue with the EBP sensor (not the valve). When it plugs up, the PCM does not see increased back pressure like it would if the sensor was working, so the tranny does not downshift.

If it sounds like what your truck is doing, clean out the tube that runs from the front of the passenger's side exhaust manifold to the sensor on the front of the block (97) or the back of the HPOP (96). The sensor itself is a bell shaped metal housing with 1/8th threads on the tube end and a 2 wire connector on the PCM end. Don't use solvent in the sensor cause you'll probably ruin the seals that make it work. New sensors are $110 +/- at ford. "

sorry my computer skills are not that good..(bad copy & paste).that's a post from the 94-97 forum basically stating that.... the tube that uns from the exhaust manifold up to the EBP Sensor(beside HPOP) gets clogged after time and effects performance
...since I have a 01 PSD project(replacement) engine on a stand I checked (removed) the tube and it was clogged after only 70K...now my honker has 387K and its impossible to clean it out so I ordered the Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor "dongle" from SP Diesel and installed it and NOW life is good and my tranny downshifts and is back to kick a** performing again just like when Brian got through with it...

SP diesels delete Dongle was around 30 bucks ...much better than a new EBP sensor from the stealership...

#2. I finally got my 203* thermostat along with my coolant filter and coolant flush....More heat now... much more

but after reading a lot of install tips I want to offer a tip that I used that really proved good...History...I replaced my water pump a year ago and ever since the thermostat housing has been seeping coolant, not much, but just enough to get the pungent coolant smell...sooo...this time since I had an extra housing and o-ring here's my tip:
since the O-ring sets on top of the thermostat in the housing, I put a very very thin cost of weatherstrip cement on the "upper" edge of the thermostat to hold the new O-ring gasket in place....the thermostat sets in the top of the housing anyway...
I then took the thermostat up pipe and put the old O-ring on the bottom flange(easy cause it left a mark where it had been)..carefully put a bead of RTV sealant up against the OUTSIDE edge of the o-ring til I had the circle completed...then removed o-ring a let set for 30 minutes or so...

Installed the flanged, rtv sealed, up pipe onto the thermostat housing very carefully, and tightened the 3 bolts down in turn, a little at a time, until they mated and rtv oozed out the sides...let it sit overnight before adding coolant etc and it sealed perfect, not a sign of a leak....Bob Riley didn't have a billet housing for my application(I have the long neck up-pipe)....

Coolant filter was installed and plumbed from water pump plug...I currently have my filter between the oil cap and the vacuum manifold on the drivers side...had to move the oil cap a smidge to the left and I "engineered a bracket to hold the napa coolant housing pn# 4019, very cheap price and plumbed OK...I was really pressed for time on this one and I had to locate it here for now until I can find a better location...I just put a Tee fitting on the outlet and put it inline from the radiator outlet to the degas bottle...

Still trying to find a clear line or something to be able to "see" the coolant flow...

Anyway I must have crawled ,stooped, slid under the chassis to route hoses and zip-tie everyting a gazillion times because I now have bought stock in ben-gay...its really hell to get old in age when you feel like you're thirty...
anyway I think the beast is alive again and ready for the ricers

Ah, I've got that lovely smell of coolant too.

Did my square-ring twice...better the second time, but not good enough.

Gonna have to wait until it warms up to try again.
