Running boards, mud flaps and bug shield

HI Everyone, I am wanting to know what is the best brand of running board. strong, rattle free, light weight, with mud flap on front end.
Also what mud flaps have you used that really work well, I might just put flaps on my E350 super duty 15 passenger.
I have had bug shields in the past and mixed results but I am looking for a good bug shield too.
please let me know your experience and where you got it, and how much if you can
Thanks for the help
Andrew.

Re: Running boards, mud flaps and bug shield

I got the whole works from my Ziebart dealer. The bug shield is a Lund. They put the adhesive-backed rubber bumpers on my sheetmetal instead of their plastic bug shield, though. An error I quickly reversed.

My hood liner is fiberglass, so I had problems keeping the bug shield securely fastened to the hood.

I solved these problems by pitching the sheet metal screws and mounting the shield with RIVET NUTS.

Thats one of those lesser of two evils considerations. I have had older vans I bought used with the bumpers mounted to the bug shield, there were marks in the hood equivalent to the number of bumpers on the bugshield. The bug shield and bumpers move/vibrate eventually marking the hood/paint in those spots, if the hood is dirty between washings, you have dirt between the bumper and hood, which can exascerbate the problem.

The altenative is adhesive residue from bumpers on the paint and the reverse effect of bumpers marking the bug shield eventually.IMO replacing bugshield is cheaper than painting hood.

The ideal solution is having that neat clear plastic stuff applied to the hood and fender leading edges. the Father-in-laws Murano has it on that massive painted front Fascia. Then with a bug shield you'd be doubly protected and the plastic stuff would protect against bumper rub or bumber adhesive depending on your installation method.

Anyhow keep an eye that the bumpers don't wear marks into the paint. Not issue at all if you plan to trade it on Dmax passenger van before the warranty runs out
