E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
I'm hoping to go on vacation soon with van but now the SES came on. It has done it intermittently. Twice when starting cold. & twice when going about 35 mph. sometimes goes off on its own, approx 15 minutes later. (once when I shut it off & restarted)& one time when the SES came on my injectors rattled loudly for about 2-3 seconds which prompted me to look at guages & noticed SES on. I intend on getting an Autoenginuity scanner, but for now I need to get this scanned.ASAP! Any other good scanners out the that will read the early 1999 PSD's? Brand & model please, so I can call around to local shops with a recommended capable scanner, so I can get fix in proggress. My wife will shot me if the van is not ready to depart & without getting stuck somewhere.
If you have a laptop I would reccomend the Autotap from B&B Electronics I bought it last year and I like it.I was tired of getting raped $65 each time for scans/code retrieval . I had to pay an extra $100 because of Duty from US on my end so it cost me about $400. The cool thing is you can virtually monitor everything while you drive. Which means you know where your engine stands as far as performance and what real time values for stuff are. It clears codes and scans . The only thing it does not do is the injector test. But I belive they are working on that. They asked me for feedback a few times but I never gave it to them. You would need the Ford "enhanced" software package . thats what they call it anyway. It would be alot cheaper for you since you are American. Check it out Autotap.com
PS you need a laptop P2 or better
Good luck
Fernando

FWIW - It's been my experience that "generic" OBD code readers will read only the "standardized" OBD emissions-related codes and not manufacturer-specific codes (many engine codes, as well as transmission and other component controller codes).
Good luck and enjoy the vacation...
Don't forget to take some "Van Goes on Vacation" photos...

Bork:
You may wish to look at the "SCANGAUGE" System.
"SCANGAUGE" Gives you a lot of very usefull information, such as all the trouble codes stored in the ecm (if any), MPG, GPH, TRIP INFO., DIGITAL MPH READOUT, and a few other thing.
the cost is reasonable also at around $100.00...Check it out.

buster26, I have the scan guage & is JUNK for codes on my early 99. Its good for monitoring other stuff, but still lacks info for water temp & a couple of other things.
I'm leaning towards an autoenginuity.
