E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
This is something I want to carry a spare of before I hit the road later this summer, so can anyone give me a good website, part #, price, etc. to get one for my Van. I have the standard single alternator.
Thks,
Larry

Try that, if that still don't work, just go to www.fordpartsonline.com and do a search for serpentine belts. It'll ask for year and make and all, and then you'll get some search results. Their site seems to be kinda slow, it may just be my connection though.
Edit: yeah... apparently you can't cut and paste links like that because it uses MySQL and it screws up or something. So just go to fordpartsonline.com and do a search for it, you'll find it.

I thought that might be the problem and happens when you do a search at McMaster Carr and try and do a link. I have to right click on the screen, get the properties and past that as the link. I guess that is what you're describing in the the address is still in some search routine that doesn't change.
I've checked several and found a couple around the $30 range, but was trying to confirm a part#, and a firm link to what someone has actually bought and confirmed to be the correct one...the ones I've found so far only say "Trust Me" and I'm just more cautious than that typical line

Yeah, i understand your caution. What usually happens to me is I order something and then i get it and have to end up sending it back and it becomes this huge hassel. I'm not sure if the one on fordpartsonline.com is the one you need but i do know they usually have pretty competitve prices. When i was looking around for a fuel sender the cheapest i could find it at a dealer was around 320 bucks. On this site it was like.. 200 something. Also i have looked up parts such as starters and... bumpers and they are fairly well prices aswell.
They have a contact feature that you can use on their site. Actually i'll contact them for you because i'm curious to see how fast and how well they respond for future things. I'll get ya a part number yet! heh. I'm just gonna ask for a part number for the van 7.3 for the single and dual alternator setup.
I think it says to change it at 100K, but since you only got one and if it goes you're stuck and might be a pain to get locally I thought just like spare filters for everything I now have on my Van, etc. a spare is a good idea when on the road traveling. Even if mine is in good shape, I might replace at 50K and keep the old one as a spare. I like to have a spare of just about everything with me(filters, cps, belts, etc.). It's a really simple job to change as long as you have a 1/2 socket swivel extension handle for the tensioner pulley.

When you change the belt out, are you changing it from the top or the bottom - do you lay under the bumper or do you remove the air filter boxes and go from the top?
youngster
Ditto to larry's post....4 yrs or 100K should be good life after that it like rolling dice...L/T $ 50 bucks install a new one keep the old one as a spare(to help someone else out) and same yourself the road call charge ...BTW road call charges have skyrocketed !!!100.00 dollars on tire service calls is standard now!!ouch later bd

I went at it from the top. Didn't look to see if just for the belt you could get to the tensioner pulley from the bottom, but would think you would still have to remove the air box to get a new belt over all the pulleys on the top part of the engine. I did this to install my fittings and hose for my coolant filter and partially removed the belt for access to the plug on the driver's side of the water pump. I actually have not changed my belt out yet since I'm just under 25K miles on the clock.

I emailed those other people and haven't gotten a response yet, so still don't have any part numbers...

I'm also wondering if the '92 will be slightly different that the later E-350's. I admit I haven't researched this a whole lot, but threw the question out to see if anyone had a ready answer ...I've got several months before this really becomes a high priority.
Thanks guys,
Larry
