Towing

I used to have a PSD Dually 4X4. Now my tow vehicle is a the Quigley van. Who has towed with their Quigley? My total trailer weight is about 8500lbs. Anyone have any advice? My tounge weight is about 1100 lbs. It does make the rear sag a little.

Re: Towing

Drew,

I drag around a 5000# Airstream with a tongue weight of 500# using a Reese equalizer behind my Quigley conversion. Not as heavy as your rig. With the equalizer I don’t have any sag, and the trailer tows so damn easy sometimes I forget it’s back there until I check my rear view changing lanes. Towing, I average around 13 mpg with low of 10 with heavy head winds, and high of around 16 mpg at 65 mph in the wide open spaces of Ut, Id, Ore. etc I also don’t push my speed over 65 mph when towing very ofen (well, maybe 70). I am also running 60 psi in the rear tires and 50 psi up front. I have about 16,500 on the van with about 8000 miles towing.

Don’t know if this helps any,

Nick

Re: Towing

I don't have a Quigley.

But, my 1997 E350 with the tall rear end tows the 26' 7,000# enclosed race trailer really really well.

It swayed without the weight distributing hitch, with the weight distributing hitch the rig is very solid. The fancy hitch makes all the difference.

With the TTS chip we occasionally get up to the 1350 line up big hills or at altitude.

Otherwise we can cruise in OD at 80mph most of the time.

Oh, we get 10mpg with the trailer. We have towed in 90,000 miles in the last two years.

Re: Towing

Drew,
I have been using my Quigley E350 for hauling a horse trailer with lots of stuff in it. Not sure what the tongue weigh is but the total weight is probably about 8,000 to 9,000 lbs with full water, horses, tack and hay on the rack. I have installed a
SuperSpring set up. Gives a bit of lift on the rear with no load but just a small sag when the trailer is on. I don't think the "no load" ride is bad but I don't sit over the rear axle either.
Installation is real easy and is adjustable so you can get the right loading. Also have a Hellwig sway bar. Handling is fine. We are also hanging about 200 lbs of water on the Ruenel bumper rack.
We are also pulling with a tall rear end and
have a WD chip.
No complaints.
