visionquest van back on the road thanks to the trans crew at wilson elliot ford truck in landover md they said it was totaly trashed inside
so ford warranty said rebuild it they even replaced the trans cooler ford did not have a trans already remanufacured for it so they sent them a rebuild kit job well done

VISIONQUEST
Did they tell you what trashed it.
Also is the converter rebuilt/replaced?
And did they install a external filter?-(inline)(screw on)
BILL
Yea the more down and dirty details would be interesting if you can supply them since I also have a 2001. How may miles when it failed and what is the current warranty on the rebuilt.

I don't know if it's too late, but if a tranny goes south and they don't put in a new radiator and a new external cooler and all new lines then you need the magnefine filter after the coolers or you have a high probability of also at some trashing the replacement tranny since particles get lodged in the coolers and are impossible even with flushing to get them out.
Since it should have been under warranty, I would search around the 99+ forums since I understand there is a TSB or something to require this extra filter and thought for something replaced under warranty there is a minimum warranty on that repair like at least 12m/12K.

Larry is correct. It's not standard to replace rad/tran cooler. Ford requires a chem flush. But the magnefine is standard installation on all trans rebuilds. (return line) Magnefine is the one ford uses. There even might be a ford part # for it.
BILL
Thanks, I didn't want to confuse things since I just added the Magnefine tranny filter but did so on the outlet of the tranny into the coolers since I've never had a tranny issue and the thought of our Tranny God Mark K. it might help from trashing the coolers the first time when the tranny goes on vacation.

Trans cool lines
Front- supply
Rear- return
I understand your thoughts about filter location. I my opinion what is the differance due to there is a buypass tube that connects the supply and return together anyway.
Mine is on return line.
Whatever the case of install. It's better than the filter inside the trans.

I've seen that post before about a bypass line, but I don't have that and have traced the lines visually and with both hands physically to ensure an unintereputed line and there is the line out of the front of the tranny that goes into the bottom of the radiator and from the oulet of the radiator to the external cooler and from there to the back line on the tranny. On my Van there are no other lines, fittings, connections. Not sure where this bypass line is cause it's not on my system. Bypass is on the 4EOD Trans.

Ah Ha...I see sez the blind man . If that is a temp controlled thing then as I understand it the 4R100 also has one, but it's internal to the tranny.

Nope, the bypass on the E4OD and 4R100 are both external. It is a black tube between the inlet and outlet ports right on the passenger's side of the transmission. I don't know if every 4R100 gets the bypass. Sometimes one or two models do not get it for some reason.

Thanks, I'll take a closer look but didn't think I noticed anything external connecting the two ports when I did an up close and personal weekend before last while changing my ATF especially some black tube, but I'm not doing to well on tranny stuff lately . Maybe mine doesn't have it and wonder why some would and some wouldn't.
Oh well back to stand in my corner for another 30min timeout

My trans books show E4OD valve assy (trans cool bypass) Part #7H322. Model Dependant, not on all E4OD. Shows no bypass for 4R70W. BTW having filter on pressure shortens its life due to it will bypass sooner than if on return line.
