Trans or sensor?

OK looking for some more help, bought a E Super Duty with a rebuilt trans. While driving back it would die when put in reverse. It also shifted late and hard. After driving on the highway for about 300 miles all seemed fine. Now the OD light is flashing and shifts firm but goes thru all gears and the OD switch does work. Checked the 3 plugs on trans and all look clean and good. What sensors are there that I should consider? I would take it back to the trans shop but that is about 800 miles away. Any help I would appreciate. Also my air bag light flashes 9 times then once and then stays lit. Checked the connections under seats and all looks good. Any ideas there? The more ideas the better, and thanks!

Sounds like the VSS in the rear axle may be shot.... Check it. maybe even replace it if the price isn't too high.

I think its actually code 19 and what I've found out from googling it is

The code 19 refers to the drivers air cag circuit.

evidentally this vehicle has been wrecked. Code 19 means "crash data memory full." This code cannot be erased, the restraints control module has to be replaced.

LFC 19 refers to a crash data memory full error. As this is usually only filled during an actual air bag deployment I'd check the LFC count again and if it is that number then take it to your dealer.

Airbag code 19 indicates that the RCM has detected a circuit problem with the driver's side airbag circuit.

That might mean a connector or a clock spring fault or the airbag or RCM has failed electrically.

These should give you a starting point

The flashing light means a code has been stored in the computer's memory. The only way to know what to look at is to have the codes read. The places that read codes free generally don't have a scan tool that can read Ford trans codes.

Thanks for all the help, I will check the price on the VSS and then no doubt have to take it into my local dealer for the air bag. I think I will have to wait till I get my next check as I know any trip to the dealer is never cheap! I was unable to get any history on any accidents that it may have been in and see no damage to the front other than a minor dent in the front passenger fender. Again thanks for the help I'm sure I will need more in the future.

My VSS is only 50 bucks and my understanding that it's in the Transmission (E4OD) Part # DY588 , so they tell me . However , mine stopped flashing and I have no more codes so who knows ?
