Transmission fluid smell

Hi all. I'm new to the site and hope to get some insight with my smelly van. I posted this in the SuperDuty forum, but just noticed that this E350 Forum existed.

I have a 2005 E350 6.0 PSD Sportsmobile 4x4 van with about 36000 miles. After much research, I opted to do my own transmission fluid flush using the warm the tranny and drain from the pan and return line process & replaced the outboard filter with a WIX 57702 (did not drop the pan and do the internal filter). Every thing went well. I replaced with the Amsoil fluid that states Mercon SP compatible. I kept track of the outgoing fluid and replacement fluid quantity.

Ever since the I flushed it, I notice that the transmission feels smoother which is great, but I get a bad transmission fluid smell when I decelerate and very bad when I come to a stop. I've checked and double checked the fluid level and all appears to be fine. I thought it was a burnt smell at first, but opened a new bottle of fluid to compare and the smell is the same as the new (kind of bad).

I have no leaks anywhere that I can see and the top of the transmission is dry around the vent.

I'm also now getting a rotten egg smell every now and then (blamed the dog the first time, but wasn't him).

I do not have a tranny temp guage, so unfortunately I can't monitor that. I do not tow anything, but the van probably weighs in around 10000 lbs.

Any ideas appreciated? I am completely stumped.

Thanks -
Phil

Often the result of unburned fuel contacting something hot in the catalytic converter. Of course......there could also be a bunch of critter poop in your cabin filter......
