Transmission Swap

Hey guys, I'm considering purchasing an E-350 people mover also known as a shuttle bus, and I need to decide whether it will be worth the money. It has a non-turboed 7.3 Diesel. It is a '93 model I believe. I also believe it is equipped with a E4OD transmission. Here is the catch, it is expected to be in need of a new transmission. I happen to have a transmission on hand. Here's the question: Does anyone know whether a C-6 auto transmission can be hooked up to a 7.3 non-turbo diesel? If so, what does it require? If this is not an option, does anybody know what I would be looking at (ballpark) for a rebuild or a remanufactured? Thanks in advance!

Re: Transmission Swap

Must be able to do it. My 1989 E350 has a 7.3 IDI non turbo with a C-6 from the factory. If I am correct, it is a bolt in job. You just need to get the correct converter for the diesel application. Also check the flywheel for correct match. I am not sure if there is such a thing as a diesel C-6, but I believe they are all the same. Watch the tailshaft, as this is where it may differ.

Re: Transmission Swap

From whati know it should bolt right up. Bell housings should be the same. Need to watch out for cavitation on that 93 though. If it's the original motor you'll need to check the SCA's in the coolant to make sure they are up to safe levels.
