trip to Mexico, problems and no problem (long)
Went to Mexico this last weekend. Thought I would share my PSD experience. Planning the trip for awhile and 3 weeks ago the fuel pump went. Since I already had a fuel system in, went and purchased a new Aeromotive pump and had her in in 20 minutes. Quite pricey, so I think I will go the two Ford pumps with lifetime warranty from Autozone. 2 weeks ago the waterpump went. Got all the sh... I needed, new hoses thermastat and clutch fan and everthing good. Gave me a chance to flush out system. So Thursday evening with trailer all loaded up with quads, I was backing up van to connect. Putt, putt, hit throttle, nothing. Now what? With all the help I have gotten on this site, I went to work. Checked under hood. Fuel pressure gauge reading 75psi. One of two things. Went to my bag of parts for the road and got out used spare IDM. Plugged her in and putt, putt went away. Full power. My daughter had taken the van for a wash and it acted up after she drove off, but cleared out. She didn't tell me about it cuz she was driving her when the fuel pump and waterpump went. When I put the used IDM in I got out a kitchen trash bag and wrapped it good. I hope that will keep the water out now. So guys, keep that in mind when you go to the car wash or raining. This is the best site and I can't wait to rebuild one of these babies. I have learned so much about PSD's. By the way, we drove 800 miles, no problem.
