Update: Aftermarket Shocks on a Quigley

Well, after reading the posts here last April regarding aftermarket shocks, I purchased a set of Rancho RS9000s for my E350. However, with 4000 miles on them, the left front appears to have gone south on me during a trip down a washboard road in Death Valley this last weekend. Although everything looks fine, it's certainly not dampening like it used to and there's a slight clunking sound when I hit a bump with that tire. I'm going to have it looked at this weekend, but I was wondering how people were fairing with their shock experiences.

Any inputs or advice?

Re: Update: Aftermarket Shocks on a Quigley

Just replaced orig. front shocks on my '86 E350 - Goodyear mech. talked me into Monroe's: Waste of money ($52 each). They're bigger than stock, but are just not adequate for the 3400 lbs on my front axle. Any whoop-de-doos at highway speeds and you think the thing's gonna float off the pavement!

Guess I'll have to go to Bilsteins, @ about $100 each - be easier to swallow if I hadn't wasted $100 bucks on these Monroe's.

Go with Bilsteins, at www.campingworld.com 68.00 each. If they are good for BMW and Rolls Royce, gives the van a better ride. they are gas filled, with oversized pistons. The shocks are much bigger than stock, and yes, they are made in Germany. Make sure you get the right model numbers right, I ordered from them and a girl took the order and sent me the wrong ones. They paid for return shipping via call tag and the second set was dropped shipped from Bilstein. I had the monroes, they are good, but the Bilsteins are better.
