v10 flutter?

Maybe this forum is just for you guys with diesel e350's. If so, sorry. Anyone have a v10 in their van. If so, do you have an annoying rattling sound that I think may be what the SD guys call flutter? I've got a 2001 e350 v10 and the irritating noise, too.

The SD guys have a part # for a new Y pipe that may fix their problem. What about us.

Re: v10 flutter?

I have a 97 E350 V10 3.37L/S, built in 10/96 with 40K. I don't notice any abnormal sounds from the engine. There is a distinct sound to the engine for sure though.

I can't say that I know what flutter would sound like, are there any sound files to be had?

The V10 has been a very sweet motor, lots of power, quiet, low maintenance, and lots of power.

I'm sorry to read about this flutter problem that lots have. I hope it get sorted out for you guys.

Re: v10 flutter?

I have a 97 E350 with the V10. It is a awesome truck! I haven't noticed any flutter. This website is the only place I have found with info on the Club Wagon or the V10. I really appreciate this site and would like to say thanks to the aministrators for allowing us a place to exchange information.

Re: v10 flutter?

Took the van into the dealer today and the service tech. said the noise is coming from the exhaust. He thinks it may be the heat sheilds. Has ordered some clamps to put on them to see if it stops the noise. We'll see. Hope it works. Let you know if it does.

Re: v10 flutter?

I had the flutter on my PSD. Turned out that there are three pipes (tubes) for the rear heater A/C unit that were installed too close to the dog house rattling around. You might check those lines (silver tubes) out.

Re: v10 flutter?

My 2000 E-350 with a wimpy 5.4v8 utilty van also made a suction sound that turned into a "engine coming thru the dog house noise" at high rpms. I Say Wimpy because i used to have a 99 V-10 until the trans gave out on me. N-e-ways on the way home from work, luckly with my friend behind me in my old V-10, i smelled a real sweet smell just to look behind me to see a cloud of steam blinding my friend behind me. I have never lost that much coolant in such a short time before. 5 sec. It turned out to be a blown heater hose. I have been haveing this problem since i took possesion of the van. I Swore it was an exaust leak, or a major vac. leak.... say the egr line came loose. but when i got the van back with just the hose replaced the noise was gone an it is as quiet as a mouse. P.S. I miss the feel of my gas pedal in the v-10. especially with a 2000lb. cherry picker on top!!
