A van forum, Finally!

Hello all, I have a 1992 E-350, (about the first diesel one of this new body styles built, therefore basically was a lemon). It's had about every problem in the book, but finally like.. a couple of years ago it just started working perfectly, i guess everything had just been replaced so much it decided to work. But about a week ago a vibration developed, it only does it when it's cold, the engine that is. And once it warms up it's still there, but not as much, then if you turn the engine off for 5 mins, then start it up and go driving again... it's gone, almost completley. It vibrates worst right from going from a stop to the first second of acceleration, and also when taking left turns. I have replace wheel bearings, checked steering, but from it's behavior patters it seems almost like something with the transmission, maybe the torque converter.. any idears?

Here are some pictures of it not to long ago..

Re: A van forum, Finally!

Eric,

A BIG WELCOME to you, look around not only here but in the applicable F series forums even the 94-97 since I assume you have the E40D. We Vanners jump around between here and the F series forums that match our Engine and Drivetrain the best. Can't help on the specific problem since this is my 1st Diesel and have enough trouble keeping track of my PSD. Also, learn to use the search function and read away you'll find this is the best website bar none to find any answer you could possibly think of, just be persistent.

BTW that is one fine looking ride for being 14 years old, you've really taken care of it ... just hope you have deep pockets and if married an understanding banker or if not a similar GF since we here will spend every cent you have or could even think of making and then make you take out a second mortgage

Re: A van forum, Finally!

well.. if you really wanna make get some mega mega wax.. get collinite's No. 885 Fleetwax. It's an aeronautical wax, it's what they use on fighter jets and stuff supposidly, and this stuff like.. laughs in the face of water. It lasts for about a year no problem. Just make sure ya preclean really really well, then put that stuff on there, and it works great. It's about 50 bucks a canister but it's worth it, i think. As for the rest, i just... try to keep it clean and what not, regularly.

EPW,

Welcome to the Van Forum,

We've been here all the time waiting for you to pop in.

I hope my van can go as far and look as nice as yours.

Would be neat to find out how many "over 100's" we have lurking on this forum.

Wonder if anyone has a "million miler"?

Re: A van forum, Finally!

My 99 has almost 115K on it now. Which reminds me....out of the blue it's cackling in the cold. Never had it before. It idles fine but when the auto idle picks up the little bit when it's cold....WOW...it sounds terrible.

Re: A van forum, Finally!

I am close to the 100K mark. Just put 1664 miles on it since last Tuesday December 3rd. Earlier today it turned 94000

Will probably have another 1600 by the years end.
