E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
Warning Vannies Be shure from now on you use oil rated CI-4 or higher.
With the use now of 15ppm diesel fuel we do not need the old oil package to combat sulfuric acids. With the loss of sulfer in the fuel the package will cause carbon buildup behined the rings causing Premature failure/wear. This is also wears the cyl bore.
Manufacturers have changed/or changing to the new api. Have to be on the lookout for old stock and what i consider off road use. The oil's are ok if running 500ppm fuel (off road)
Us 7.3 owners do not need the CJ-4.
I posted this due to Iam one of those long long distance oil changers.
CJ-4 is superior in most ways than previous oils, and it won't be long before it will be all that is manufactured. It is especially engineered for the new emissions equipment and doesn't really have much relationship to LSD or ULSD. Use it and don't worry about it.
