Video System Mount

I've been looking into putting a video system in the van lately, and wanted to see what you guys have done for yours. I've seen the autovision systems that comes with the Chateau package, but I can't justify spending that much money on a system that's only used in the vehicle. My solution is to maybe mount one of these 13 inch sharp LCD screens behind my driver's seat. Ours is a 15 pass. configuration with the front seat and rear seat removed. When not in use in the vehicle I plan to take the TV out and put it in the boy's room on a wall mount (so they can't knock it over). The power supply for these things is already 12V, and they have an invert button that will flip the screen orientation for easier mounting if needed. What do you think? Can I just retro one of the standard mounts or will I have to make something? I do not want to tear up the head liner either. There are tow "support buttons" about a foot apart on that side of the Ceiling AC that I'd like to use, but I don't know if it'll work. Any Input would be greatly apprecitated.

Re: Video System Mount

Keeth,
I can't offer much advice, but I'll be interested to hear how you set it up. Currently we use a 13" TV/VCR combo bungee strapped to a little wooden table & plugged into an inverter (just on long trips )
I'm working on an entertainment mod myself--I want to permanently install stereo headphone jacks along the driver's side trim panel along the back seats. Harness could be plugged into a TV, computer, CD player, whatever, then the kids could plug in to listen while me & the wife can have a little quiet Anyone done something like this?

Re: Video System Mount

I have used several of the tv/vcr combo things over the years and I must have bad luck or they cannot take the pounding that a vehicle passes on. They all die after about three years or 3000 miles. I'm looking into a DVD player that I can mount anywhere in the the van and hook that into a monitor. Like you I don't want to spend a lot of money on a one vehicle system. Circuit City has a player for $199, I think, that can be mounted under a seat or anywhere you want to hide it. I also found another one for $299 from Viper, the company that makes the alarms. I think the one from CC had a TV tuner built in but don't quote me. I was thinking of buying that for our next trip and hook it into the combo unit that the TV still works on but the VCR is shot. Later I can add on a LCD screen. I have seen screens that can clip onto the headrest support rods but don't remember thier cost. There are a lot of options. If you find a "high end" auto stereo place they can show you what they have installed and give you some choices. Like anything it gets expensive quick. Good luck and let us know what you discover.
