Water Pump Help

I am into evening number 3 of fighting with the fan clutch nut. I still cannot budge it. I built myslef a wrech out of 1/4" flat bar, and after building/breaking/purchasing a collection of inferior tools, I purchased a Klein strap wrench to hold the water pump pulley. Alas, despite significant usage of snipes, I cannot make the nut turn.

So, before I go too far, I want to ask, exactly, which way do I turn the fan clutch nut. I realize it's RH threaded, but that's kind of meaningless unless I know which way is off. Never having had one apart, it's not immediately apparant which part screws into what.

As an aside, I priced a water pump from the local Ford Dealer.. Marlborough Ford in Calgary. Are you sitting down? $600. And that's the wholesale price. Retail is over $700, they tell me. I think not...

Oh, the truck is a '95 E-350 with the Powerstroke. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Water Pump Help

Hi Peter. Just got done doing my waterpump. I assume you have a van. When standing in front of the van looking at the pump, the nut should be turned counterclock wise. You need to get hold of the 4 bolts that hold the pulley to prevent the fan from turning. Careful when you take off the tube that mounts over the thermastat. You can take this off after the pump is out. I got a new waterpump from Napa for $250.00 with a lifetime warranty. That was with AAA discount.
