The 95 E350 Super Cargo Ext van that I wrecked at the end of last year has more structural damage than I thought. I tore the front cap off today to get it ready to rebuild... Saw plenty of little things that added up to a bunch of trouble.
So now I decided to junk it.
The frame wasn't bent, and the engine, radiator, and even AC condenser were okay, so I thought I was golden. Get a front cap, throw it on, and drive.
I wasn't aware these vans have a unibody style front end.
I was thinking that the radiator support/cowl were not welded up unibody style.
Anyway, the unibody crushed itself all the way back to the driver's floor board.
It bent perfectly at all the built in crush points. Couldn't see it with the fender on.
Now to the point of my post:
How much dough should I be looking to get out of a junkyard to salvage an E350 with an awesome running PSD?
I had a tranny (E4OD) and a starter go out on other fleet vans, and pulled them from this one for a quick fix. Therefore I have gotten very good use out of salvaging the van. All the junkyard will get is a perfect 1995 PSD and about 200 bux worth of steel for the crusher.
Not that they couldn't nickel and dime some decent parts off it for gravy, but I am not going to count that stuff.
The yards I have been speaking to have also said that the Dana 60 floater doesn't sell well. They say they usually crush the 60s out with the vans because they add substantial weight. They sell for 400 when they find a buyer, but they don't want to 'sit' on them.
Whatcha think?
The yards want
ME to say what I want for the van first.
Some want to take the van 'off my hands' for their trouble in hauling it off.
Thanks
Dave
Here's the thread I posted about the van last year...
I put a new water pump on the day before it was wrecked.
One of our PSD vans lost a water pump today. Any tips?
