What is the average fuel mileage for a new 6.0 e350 cargo van?
I currently have a 03 e250 that I drive at work it is just a cargo regular length with racks and bins package loaded with HVAC parts and equipment. It has the 5.4l engine in it and the best around town mileage that it gets is 11-13 MPG. I'm trying to talk the boss into trying a diesel van, what are the pros and cons as far as MPG and maint.?

Re: What is the average fuel mileage for a new 6.0 e350 cargo van?
my 6.0 e350 super cargo, 2004, gets about 16.5 mpg, hauling butt on the parkway commute to work. if i keep it under 75, i ll get 17.5. stock, no mods, moderate load in van...
i dont think fuel economy is a good reason to spend another 5k on a engine, especially with diesel costing more than premium gas.
load and towing needs are more the reason for needing a diesel for business.
maintenance is a bit more costly also......fuel filter change at the dealer is 180 bucks, 16 qt oil changes, the list goes on.
i got mine cause i like the sound of a diesel and it s pretty easy to sell in about 2 years ...

What a crap shoot with mileage on these 6.0's. Here's a similar van, (SMB conversion, 4x4) and he's getting BETTER than me and I DONT have 4.10's in the rear and his ride is heavier!?!?. ***. It's hard to believe that his 275 versus my 285 size tires would make that much of a difference. My kingdom for 17.4! Heck, I'd be happy just to make it back to 14.5. Maybe I should have them flash it again.

Yup! Just a crap shoot, I have a light SMB, <8500#'s, 4.11's, 295 tires and am consistently 13.5 overall @ 17K miles. Though I do drive a bit faster. I have never had > 15.5 mpg on my most ideal conditions. The flashes, synthetic oil, new turbo - no changes noticable.
