What's a good exhaust system to add MPG and performance
Hey everybody,
What's a good exhaust system to add MPG and performance to a 2000 E350 15 Passenger 7.3 van I just pick up? It's got high miles but runs good. I'm looking at a 4" complete system with down tube...?

Along the same lines, I assume the 'turbo back' exhaust is everything 'back' from the turbo. So, what is a 'Cat Back' exhaust? Also, why can't you just take the vehicle to the local Midas shop and have the work done for about half the price and no trouble? Do diesels require a special kind of metal tubeing that Midas or other muffler shops may not have? And one final thing; what dictates whether you install a 4 inch or a 5 inch system? Thanks for any replies.

Cat Back is from the Catalytic convertor back.
Most Midas shops don't have the equipment to do Mandrel bends, so they make 'crush' bends which reduce the diameter of the tubes - not good.
Also, it would be a rare Midas shop that can handle 4" tubing, let alone make a mandrel bend on one.

The 5" exhaust is used for gents who race and PuLL with the Rigs.
The 4" is plenty for the van. I have the 4" Magnaflow and it works great.
The 2000 year vans did not come with a Cat Converter, mine didn't anyway.
I was driving on the Freeway the other day and I went about 95 MPH and the Boost Gauge was reading 30 #'s, and the van had way more pedal to go.
The Magnaflow exhaust has the straight-through pipe and the van breaths very well with this system.
I wrapped my entire exhaust with the Thermo-Tec header Tape 2" Wrap, including the muffler. It stoops the drone sound inside the van and made it very quiet inside. Best 125.00 I ever spent.
You can doctor the Magnaflow truck exhaust to work in the van. The pipe that wraps over the rear axle is the only issue. We used those band clamps on the joints to adjust the system the way we needed it to bend and fit.

At 13 mpg empty and 7 towing, I've decided to upgrade the exhaust to 4 inch. I checked WarpSpeed and they have an 'aluminized' turbo back system for $289 plus shipping and that sounds pretty good. But, the 'aluminized' makes me a little apprehensive so I've been looking for stainless steel; can't find any. Does anyone know of any company that has them for <$500.00?

Assuming you live a dry climate Aluminized should be more than ample. I have same exact kit on my van and as far as the quality goes I love it, especially for the price I paid. WarpSpeed sells it but Diamond Eye manufactures it, they're available trough many diesel stores WarpSpeed just advertises it on the website.
Try Black Widow Diesel 319-849-1191 they're extremely friendly, I always purchase through them.
