What's the most miles you have got out of your tires?

I currently have 83000 miles on the front tires of the work van. These are the orginal goodyears that came on the van.The rear tires were changed @ 66000 miles. We haul heavy so i believe that had alot to do with the rears giving out as early as they did compared to the fronts.I have read some posts at times with ppl saying they dont like goodyears but for me these have done a great job for me.Just curious as to what everyone gets out of there tires .BTW the fronts still have good tread on them but will probably get changed before winter as the rears are going to be put on front and some winter tires are going on the back as i don't like the highway treaded tires on the back during the winter.

83000 on tires

The most I've ever seen on any of mine (on the Ford vans) is 48,000.

Re: What's the most miles you have got out of your tires?

I tried keeping the air in my tires pretty near max but the ride was enough to put you thru the roof.

Re: What's the most miles you have got out of your tires?

We run ours at max pressure as it is loaded heavy most of the time.It is a rough ride empty but i just learn to live with it .Also we have yet to have to replace the brake pads either .Whats everyone getting out of there brake pads on a 350?

Re: What's the most miles you have got out of your tires?

I had a two rear wheel axle seals leak so I changed the rears around 50K but I changed the front ones around 110K.

Re: What's the most miles you have got out of your tires?

Wayne, I'm guessing that most of those miles are highway miles. At what speeds? I know a guy that went 90,000 on 4 Michelin LTX M/S, but he rarely hauled heavy weight and it was a gas engine, a 1993 E250 ext/body. They were still looking ok, but not good enough to start a winter season in new england. I don't know what pressures he used. The Goodyear HT's may serve you well, but I found them to be very slippery in the rain and downright dangerous in the snow. Both of my current vans came with the HT's and I removed and sold the tires at about 3 to 5,000 miles (4 each). I still have the spare HT tire and wheel from each van in my barn, and on occasion I will put them on for short periods along with some 265/75-16 tires, so I can take and drop off my tires/wheels to be balanced. I don't like stangers touching my lugnuts. Tony

Re: What's the most miles you have got out of your tires?

I think I got the least out of mine and finally replaced them at 35K. The wear was perfectly down the center indicating over inflation. After doing some research it appears the doorjamb spec of 55 front, 80 rear, is for fully loaded conditions.

I now run 40 front & 35 rear, unloaded, and then inflate per the load table. After 10K on my new tires, Cooper Discovery A/T, they appear to be holding up well.

I agree the Goodyear HT’s are crap on rain, snow, and gravel. The coopers are much better. Maybe this is because the HT’s tread widths are much wider then most other tires with the same size spec?

After this experience I now inflate my trailer tires per load too.

tony your correct most of those miles on the tires are highways miles .Speed anywhere between 55 and 70 most times.Usually the van and trailer are loaded .I agree those tires aren't very good in rain or snow.Snow was the worst as we have a pretty good slope on the driveway to get to our warehouse and i would spinout just about everytime trying to get up driveway.Usually had to back out and get a good run to get up driveway .

Re: What's the most miles you have got out of your tires?

Update on the tire question ,Friday while out making my rounds on my route started getting a bad vibration.Looked at tire's several times during the day and on my last stop found the problem. The front right tire had a cupped spot in it probably 8 inches long in the middle of the tire .This is not a wore thin spot just it is sunk lower then the rest of the tire.So tomorrow the front tires come off they made it 86000 miles and 20000 more then the back tires so i don't think the company can complain.
While i was showing this to the fleet manager i asked if we could move the fairly new tires on back to the front and get some decent treaded tires for the back as winter will be here in a few months. He agreed so hopefully will have something alot better on bad this winter then those highway treads.
Take care
